Jun. K's honest thoughts, desires and future plans!

[XP Interview] Jun. K "After appearing on 'Masked Singer' I realized where I stand"

2PM Jun. K released his first domesticated solo album. The title track 'Think About You' was a future and RnB song that expressed the hardships of the recurring person in his mind through an intense sound and melody.

On the 11th, Jun. K had the time to sincerely speak about his thoughts on his Korean solo debut, desired results from music/variety shows, and 2PM/Jun. K musical routes in his "Mnet Countdown" waiting room.

Thoughts on your Korean solo debut?
It was first opportunity to show my music and my world view in my country. Going back to the rookie days, I'm trying to fully engage in everything. I came here early in the morning to prepare. Thinking as if it's my first time, I want to show gestures that I'm doing my best.

You must had heard a variety of responses after your album was released.
I got many calls from close people who also work on music. I challenged a new, musical experiment, and I got compliments for producing a good song. However, it is true that this song is unfamiliar to the general public. In the midst of that, I must continue challenging (myself); that's what I think. This album is the beginning of letting people know 'Jun. K does this type of music.'

On the internet, I saw the reaction 'Jun. K was undervalued this whole time'
I saw that too. I'm just thankful that they recognized me. When I made an appearance on "Masked Singer," I read comments like, 'I never knew this whole time, he sings well,' and I realized what kind of presence I had. I thought it was because I never had the opportunity to show my musicianship. Therefore, I want to work harder for these promotions.

Is it because you felt you needed to change your image?
Honestly speaking, I didn't commit a sin, but my image is.... haha. Close people told me I have the image of 'just trying to look cool' at times 'I look cool in.' I want to break that. I'm actually a humorous, sweet, and a positive, neighborhood dude type of person. I want to approach many people with my musical talents in a friendly manner.

In that sense, how's your music/variety appearances?
I recently finished recording for Mnet "I Can See Your Voice 3." Early in the year, I also made an appearance on "Masked Singer." If there are other music/variety shows, I want to do it happily.

There are singers who appeared on "Masked Singer" twice.
Oh, that's not that bad?

Aren't the digital chart rankings disappointing?
I already thought the rankings wouldn't look good ever since the song was released. The general public doesn't have any knowledge my musical foundation. Expecting something without any knowledge would actually be more daunting to me. This is the start.

Did you pick the experimental route on purpose in order to clearly present your musical foundation?
No. I was just presenting the type of music I want to do. Even if I was working on a song, I would halt all work if I didn't feel sincere. I only add my story with a bit of an imagination and elements that I am good at. Because the song was based on future, it must sound difficult and unfamiliar. However, I am content with this song, because I sincerely expressed my personal emotions.

Will things be maintained as '2PM's public friendly dance tracks and Jun. K's sophisticated and experimental RnB'?
2PM is currently working hard and gathering songs. The members also produced songs experimentally and with sincerity, because they felt that public friendly songs appear fake. Like this, only good songs are left. I just came back from composing at my studio after I finished the pre-recording. I personally really enjoy the emotions from 1990~2000 RnB. I try to have my own individuality by rearranging the emotions, chorus, etc.
