Jun.K Oricon Style Interview

Does your state of mind differ from last time?
Last time I released my first solo album; therefore, I tried to express my individuality through public notice to the world. However this time, instead of showing a new side or my individuality, I produced an album that can approach to the audience.

The previous production had a incisive feeling, but this production has a smoother feeling.
For me personally the most exciting season is winter, and Christmas has an exciting element. It puts me in a good mood, because I feel the warmth from lights on the side walk. Therefore, I produced this album with the winter warmth as the theme

Thoughts on the title?
I thought the warm appeal from Love Letter was perfect for this album's title. The topics of the tracks are about love, but I want the audience to think 'Oh, this person is speaking to me' by writing the lyrics as if I was writing a letter. For these reasons, I think Love Letter suits as the title.

When did you start the production?
It was during August. I made the effort to experience the winter emotions by setting the air conditioner to 17 degrees Celsius (laughs). During the two weeks, I became canned food (due to disconnection from others) for this production (bitter laugh).

So that's what you went through for this album production. Unlike the previous album, entire the sound production is full of jazz.
Other than that, there are swing aspects and the melody has pop aspects; however, I think this album is overpowered by the jazz features. Especially <Love Letter> turned out to be a pop song. It's based on sounds from the big bands in the 1950s, so producing new beats from it was very annoying (laughs).

On top of that, didn't you produce 2PM tracks as well?
I think this year was the busiest year for me.

The music video for <Love Letter> was already produced, but tell us about the music video and dance performance.
Presentation for <Love Letter> was inspired by Charlie Chaplin's movie. Charlie Chaplin's world was expressed in the music video, acting and choreography.

Have you ever written an actual love letter in real life?
Yes, I have. When I was in the 2nd grade in elementary school, a very cute girl transferred in. On a note I wrote, "You're pretty. I want to kiss you."

That was a invincible fastball (laughs).
But the moment she saw it, she said "wow" and threw the note. I took it home, and kept in my pocket. My mom found it when she was doing the laundry, so I got in a lot of trouble. On top of that, the girl kept avoiding me until she suddenly disappeared in middle school (bitter laugh).

That's a scar.
We were neighbors; so whenever she noticed me on the way to tutor or just on the streets, she would exclaim, "Oh my!" and run away. I did not know anything about her. Even though I was just child, I was very hurt; so I learned that I should be careful next time.

To hear that Jun.K has such experience.
I was a innocent child (laughs).

Do you enjoy writing letters?
My mother was the type of person to write, so I often wrote at a young age.

Any replies from members?
No... There isn't even a response. But it's alright! (bitter laugh)

It is because you guys are able to communicate without any words.
Yes! Typical letters are about two sheets of A4 paper, but I have only said, "My first album, please listen to it a lot" on a three line message. It is more like a memo/note than a letter.

The members should still be proud, because you had put your whole heart into it.
It's okay (bitter laugh). Oh, I bought Junho's album... I'm still okay!

Then have you purchased Wooyoung's album?
Oh...

Should we move on to the next question?
Please (laugh).

In the song <Walking on the Moon>, there was a line saying, "The stillness of tonight's loneliness." Are you a person who senses loneliness often?
I think I am a person who senses loneliness often.

How do you bear with the loneliness?
Instead of comforting myself, I try to feel the loneliness. If I see myself as a person with component of loneliness, I feel a sense of relief and I am able to be immune to loneliness. For those lonely people who are reading this, please check out my album. Like a jacket, you will feel warmth and healing.

Great. <Walking On the Moon> has the lines, "Passion for Music." Is there anything that you are personally passionate about?
These days, I do not have any spare time. Either way, I do not think I can exclude music. It became a part of my life, so everything connects music. Honestly speaking, I cannot let go of music in my private life. Whenever I meet people for personal reasons, they are musicians; so we end up talking about music. The only private life I have is cleaning up my dog's waste when I arrive home (laugh).

<Sorry> has the lines, "I know I'm bad." Was there an episode where you had to apologize to your 2PM members for joking around?
First of all, I say "I am a good person. Please be careful of bad people." I've figured someone will attack me for the line "I'm bad" in <Sorry> (laughs). Honestly speaking, I think I joke with the members the most so far. However, I think I have not joked around to the point the members felt offended. Please know that I do not have malice.

Then, <EVEREST(Album Ver.)> has the lines, "Let's Keep Traveling Together." If you were you travel with two members, who and where would you go?
I want to travel to Switzerland with Chansung. There is no special reason. That's right, it is because Chansung cooks meat proficiently (laugh). After lurking around for about a week, I want to go sky diving.

Please continue.
I want to make it a reality. And in a few years, I will go on a long trip with Taecyeon.

Then, <Good Morning> has the lines, "When/If you wake up in the morning." What is the first thing you do when you wake up in your hotel room during a trip?
I clear my throat.

Do you have any routine for taking care of your throat?
I brush my teeth with salt water. The key point is to use natural thick salt instead of processed salt.
